What is "Guide"

When you were still schooling, your teacher may have told you not to use your hands or your fingers to read. However, many speed reading courses teach the use of "guides" as an effective way to keep your eye focused on the words you are reading.

As you tend to move your guide such as your hand along the content, your eye will follow the guide. This way, you probably increase your speed and your efficiency.

"Guides" work because your eyes follow the guide on the page as it moves along next to, or below, the words you are reading.

Essentially, the guide is keeping your eyes and your brain focused on the words on the page.

Using a guide will also keep you advancing. This will stop you from being regressing.

Find a magazine or a book to try out this technique. Use the same magazine or book for all the exercises, so you can compare your results using the same amounts of words. Every time you try a different technique, select a different page in the book or publication.

What Is Subvocalization

Children in the early stage learn how to read through subvocalization. This is when you read the words that you hear out loud in your head. Some people even say out the words to themselves. Reading experts say that this is how we learn to build up comprehension, and absorb the information we are receiving.
